POST HISTORY

A proud group of our Founding veterans came together in 1945 to bring a VFW Post to Highland Park, Il. They met at various locations during the initial years.

When they raised enough money, they purchased an old building and began renovating it to make it suitable for a VFW hall. The two-story building had a large upper level used for post meetings and private functions, and was available for rent for private parties, with a full kitchen and seating for up to 125 people for meals. That building has since been sold, and the members of the Post started to meet at the Highland Park Police Station.

Highland Park and Highwood combined in March, 2017, and with this merger Highland Park has grown by 47 active members. With this merger we were also offered to take over an unused room in the back of the Wooden Nickel. We will be starting to raise funds to buy another building in the future (or take over an abandoned building and refurbish it), and we are looking forward to a great future of helping Veterans and their familes!
